PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL (Electroluminescent) light emitting device which is capable of improving light emitting efficiency by efficiently utilizing a guided-wave light inside an organic EL element and which is superior in color rendering characteristics. SOLUTION: The organic EL light emitting device is provided with the organic EL element having an organic light emitting layer arranged between an anode wiring 102 and a cathode wiring 104, and an illuminant which is arranged on a side face side of the organic light emitting layer and which absorbs and emits light emitted from the organic light emitting layer as an excitation light, the organic light emitting layer emits light of a blue color range and a green color range, and the illuminant has an absorption band in the blue color range and the green color range and emits light of a red color range.
