PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve precision and efficiency in the control of power supply to an electric blower by always securing the optimum suction forces for various kinds of dust. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner comprises a first dust detecting means 35, a second dust detecting means 36, a first retaining means 37, a second retaining means 38 and a control means 14. The first and second retaining means 37 and 38 add retaining time to respective signals based on a first dust detection signal detected by the first dust detecting means 35 and a second dust detection signal detected by the second dust detecting means 36 and output first and second retaining signals. The control means 14 controls the electric power to be fed to the electric blower 2 based on the first and second retaining signals. With this structure, the dust with different sizes can be detected by size, and the precision in the control of the power supply can be improved according to the size, kind and quantity of dust.
