<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of maintaining good image quality over a long period of time by appropriately controlling a primary transfer quantity of forcibly consumed toner on an image carrier to an intermediate transfer body based on the rubbing distance of a cleaning member on the image carrier. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a counting means for counting the rubbing distance on the basis of the initial state of the cleaning member for the image carrier, and a control means for controlling the press-contact operation of the primary transfer means at the primary transfer of transferring the forcibly consumed toner on the image carrier in the forcible consumption mode to the intermediate transfer body based on the rubbing distance counted by the counting means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
