PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium of excellent quality which can perform production efficiently in recording a servo signal etc. by magnetic transfer and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium 2 is equipped with; a support object 21; a magnetic layer 22 for magnetic recording and reproducing; a protection layer 23 consisting of C-H or C-H-N; and a lubricant layer 24 applied to a surface. Magnetization patterns are recorded on the magnetic layer 22 to which physical cleaning is carried out after application of the lubricant layer 24, by magnetic transfer which applies a magnetic field for transfer in a superposed state with a master carrier 3.
