<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for rolling metal plates, which does not cause a zigzag motion and a camber. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for rolling metal plates carried out using a rolling mill for metal plates having at least a working roll and a back-up roll, a force applied to the roll chocks on the working side and the driving side of the working roll in the direction of rolling is measured during the operation of rolling, and the difference of the force in the direction of rolling on the working side and the driving side is calculated, and then right and left unsymmetrical components at a press-down position of the rolling mill is controlled such that the difference of the force becomes a desired value of the control. Then, the setup value for the press-down position obtained by the calculation based on the deformation characteristic of the rolling mill is compared with the press-down position obtained by the control. Based on these results, the setup correcting value for the press-down position is calculated. The press-down position after the next pass or the next material is set based on the newly obtained setup value for the press-down position and the newly obtained setup correcting value for the press-down position.
