Rubbing wood (W1) for making smoke for smoking food products, comprises at least two pieces of solid wood consisting of different types of wood (e.g. 8, 10; 16, 18, 20) held together without glue. Independent claims are also included for (1) rubbing wood (W2) for making smoke by pressing one end against the convex surface (42) of a rotating rubbing element, with a routed recess (40) at one end (4) fitting the shape of the contact surface (42) (2) rubbing wood (W3) with a routed projection at one end fitting the shape of a concave surface on a rotating rubbing element (3) a method (M1) for smoking food products with smoke produced by pressing W1 against a rotating rubbing element (4) a method (M2) for smoking food products using wood W2 in the same way.
