PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bending machine which can inexpensively carry out the bending work in a short period of time. SOLUTION: The bending machine comprises a workpiece clamp 3 which can clamp a plate shape workpiece 9, and bending dies 5, 7 which can move in the shearing direction of the workpiece 9 in the neighborhood of the workpiece clamp 3. The workpiece 9 is clamped in the state that the edge portion of the workpiece 9 to be bent is projecting toward the bending die 5 or the bending die 7, and the edge portion is bent by moving the bending die 5 or the bending die 7 from the lower face side of the edge portion. When the workpiece 9 is bent into a U shape, the bending machine can easily cope with the case where a variety of bending widths are required. As a result, the increase of a cost and a working load can be suppressed. Because the workpiece 9 is bent in the clamped state, the posture of the workpiece 9 after the bending work is stable, and also the positioning work can be automated easily.
