PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of recognizing a character message during telephone call and receiving the character message. SOLUTION: A character message distributing system 1 has a PBX 4, containing a PHS 2 and an MSG-SV 5 connected to the PBX for distributing character messages to the PHS. When a request for distributing character messages to the PHS from the MSG-SV is generated, the PBX decides whether the PHS is in a character message receivable state; then, if it is in receivable state, it stops character message distribution from the MSG-SV to the PHS, and will resume the character message distributing operation, from the MSG-SV to the PHS after the PHS recovers the character message receivable state.
