PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading unit which can adjust a lens rotationally around its optical axis without allowing the occurrence of dislocation on the arrangement posture of a light shielding member with respect to a photoelectric conversion element, an image forming apparatus equipped with the image reading unit, and a method for assembling the image reading unit. SOLUTION: First and second lens barrels 27 and 28 which respectively hold two lenses 26 for causing the reduction imaging of the reflected image from a manuscript in the line type photoelectric conversion element 24 are placed on a base member 21 and the first lens barrel 17 is provided with the light shielding member 32 for correcting the fourth power rule of cosine of the lens 26.
