A mobile communication system in which the amount of processing performed by a base station using an adaptive array antenna so as to perform weight estimation and weight control of a mobile station present in the cover area of a repeater is reduced. The repeater superimposes a repeater identification signal for identifying the repeater itself on a downlink signal. The mobile station detects the repeater identification signal and adds information on the repeater when transmitting an uplink signal. With this, in the base station, a signal processing section (56a) detects the information on the repeater included in the uplink signal, and the result of the detection is stored in a mobile station database (60). A simplifying device (61) confirms the contents in the mobile database (60), selects mobile stations present in the cover areas of the repeater, and instructs only a desired mobile station of the selected mobile stations to continue weight estimation and weight control of transmission/reception, and instructs the other mobile stations to stop weight estimation and to use the weight estimate at the desired mobile station as it is.
