The device has two retaining units (1, 2) with respective magnets (5, 6). The units are arranged together in a given position of a door so that the magnets are arranged at a distance to each other and work together for positioning the door in the given position. The distance between the two magnets is adjustable. One of the units is mounted at a door leaf and the other unit is mounted at a stationary side unit.
