The method involves removing a portion of each of multiple segments of a signal, and decoding removed portions. The decoded portions are analyzed to preserve only certain segments based on detection criteria. Another portion of each segment is removed. The steps from decoding are repeated till all the segments are eliminated or all the preserved segments are decoded to detect occurrence of the pattern in the preserved segments. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a base station adapted for listening to a radio channel and for detecting a signal pattern (B) a computer program product to be installed in a receiver, comprising instructions to implement a signal pattern detecting method.
