A process for the production of water-insoluble dye-stuffs on cellulose or protein fibres wherein the textile material is treated in an alkaline bath which contains a coupling component and a diazoamino compound of the general formula <FORM:1090795/D1-D2/1> wherein wherein R is a phenyl, halogenophenyl, alkylphenyl, alkoxy-phenyl, dialkylphenyl, alkylhalogenophenyl; alkoxyhalogenophenyl, alkylcarbamylphenyl, alkoxycarbamylphenyl, alkylsulphamylphenyl, alkoxysulphamylphenyl, alkyl (alkylsulphonyl) phenyl, alkyl (aralkylsulphonyl) phenyl, alkoxy (alkylsulphonyl) phenyl, alkoxy (aralkylsulphonyl) phenyl or an acylaminophenyl radical; Z is a straight or branched chain C1-C4 alkyl group which may be substituted by a carboxylic acid group and R1 is a carboxyalkyl, sulphoalkyl or a sulphophenyl radical which may be substituted in the benzene nucleus by halogen or an alkyl group, together with a dispersing or wetting agent; and then treating without an intermediate drying with an acid at below 40 DEG C. The coupling components have high substantivity, this term being defined and the alkali and alkaline earth metal salts of the diazoamino compounds may be used. Preferably, the alkaline treatment is carried out in presence of an inorganic salt, e.g. sodium chloride, phosphate or sulphate at 10 DEG -35 DEG C and the pH of the acid treatment is 4 to 7. The textile materials may be dyed in yarn hanks, wound bodies, slubbings or piece goods and the Examples describe dyeing cotton yarn, cotton wound bobbins, and knitted cotton fabric in all shades. |
