<p>An in-line seat belt pretensioner 12 is provided that includes a frame 22 containing a first guide member 24 and a second guide member 26 for tensioning of seat belt webbing 12 upon pretensioner 10 activation. As the pretensioner 10 is activated, the seat belt 12 is tensioned by activation of an actuator 36 operably coupled to the second guide 26. The second guide 26 is then routed over a vertically stationary first guide 24 that is slidably engaged within a slot 25 within the frame 22, thereby contributing to reducing the load on the occupant. A low-friction material employed in the manufacture of the guide member(s) 24, 26, contributes to a smoother and less abrupt tensioning of the seat belt 12 upon activation of the pretensioner 10.</p> |
