<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the positional deviation of an image by measuring the expansion coefficient of an intermediate transfer member and correcting latent image write-in timing in accordance with the obtained result. <P>SOLUTION: The latent image write-in timing is corrected by measuring the expansion coefficient of the intermediate transfer member 1 by using a circumferential length sensor 22.
