The present invention provides a pod or pad (10) for preparing a beverage comprising: a body defining a storage volume (31) having an inlet (25) for entry of water and an outlet for outflow of beverage; the storage volume (31) containing a water-soluble composition or a combination or mixture of water-soluble compositions for forming a beverage; the outlet comprising filtering means (12); wherein the storage volume further contains a dispersion plate (30) associated with the outlet for creating a non-vertical flow of water, in use, within the storage volume wherein the dispersion plate is freely suspended within the storage volume (31).
