PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve color reproduction with high accuracy in color management processing for a display apparatus employing a dual modulation system. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes liquid crystal luminance panel constituting a luminance modulation element and a liquid crystal color panel constituting a color modulation element, that are configured using different modulation elements. The apparatus includes the following processes: a control value R"G"B" of the color modulation element is determined based on an input target color value XYZ, by using absolute XYZ-output linear RGB conversion matrixes 102 that describe a relationship between the target color value XYZ (R<SB>iHDR</SB>G<SB>iHDR</SB>B<SB>iHDR</SB>) and a control value R"G"B" (R<SB>8bit</SB>G<SB>8bit</SB>B<SB>8bit</SB>) for the color modulation element for each control value T for the luminance modulation element; and control value R"G"B" of the liquid crystal color panel is nonlinearly corrected according to a characteristic of the color modulation element by aγcorrecting unit 103 to 105.
