<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an attached amount conversion method capable of always carrying out stable and accurate detection of the attaching amount over the whole attaching area in attaching amount detection for powder such as toner and to provide an image forming apparatus capable of performing the method. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, diffused reflected light output conversion value is obtained by subtracting a value which is; a product of relative output ratio (normalized value) between regularly reflected light output voltage of a gradation pattern obtained as detected result by a light detecting means which can simultaneously detect regularly reflected light and diffused reflected light and regularly reflected component of a back ground part of the regularly reflected component extracted from regularly reflected light output of diffused reflected light output voltage and a diffused reflected light output voltage increased portion which is obtained from a difference between diffused reflected light output voltage of the detection subject surface and diffused reflected light output value of the light detecting means when a light emitting means is turned off from the diffused reflected light output voltage and the diffused reflected light output voltage increased portion and then polynomial approximation is carried out on the diffused light output conversion value in relationship with the attached amount in a medium attaching region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
