PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for measuring a physical quantity that intends to improve resolution over across-the-board measuring range, and to provide a method of measuring the physical quantity using the device. SOLUTION: The device where a detector detects attenuation of energy transmitted through a sheet-like object to be measured after being emitted from a radiation source including radiation ray, to measure the physical quantity of the object to be measured, is equipped with a first analytical curve generating means generating the analytical curve by normalizing the output signals from the detector measuring the air layer between the radiation source and the detector and a second analytical curve generating means generating the analytical curve by normalizing the output signals from the detector in the state a correlation sample is inserted between the radiation source and the detector.
