PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerizable compound usable as a material for a resin having a refractive index (nd) as high as above 1.7 as well as having the requisite properties, i.e., high transparency, good heat resistance, and good mechanical properties, of an optical member such as a plastic lens and to provide an optical member comprising the resin. SOLUTION: The polymerizable compound is a compound having one or more epoxy groups in the molecule and containing at least one member selected from metallic atoms. More particularly, it is a compound represented by formula (1) (wherein M is an Sn atom, an Si atom, a Zr atom, a Ti atom, or a Ge atom; R<SB>1</SB>is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>are each independently a divalent organic group; X<SB>1</SB>and X<SB>2</SB>are each independently a sulfur atom or an oxygen atom; Y is an inorganic or organic residue; m is 0 or an integer of 1 or greater; n is an integer of 1 to p; and p is the valence of the metallic atom M).
