A location tracking system for mobile terminals and a method thereof are provided to confirm the present location of a mobile terminal easily and simply without using a GPS device by measuring the direction angle of the mobile terminal through a smart antenna and using the difference between a downlink frame and an uplink frame. A location tracking system comprises a BSC(Base Station Controller)(10), a mobile terminal(20), and a BS(Base Station)(30). If a request to confirm the location of the mobile terminal is received from a network or a server, the BSC transmits a measurement control message to the mobile terminal and instructs the mobile terminal to measure the difference(Td) between a downlink frame and an uplink frame. Also the BSC transmits a measurement request message to the BS in order to request the BS to measure the direction angle of the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal measures the difference according to the measurement control message and transmits it to the BSC. The base station measures the direction angle of the mobile terminal according to the measurement request message and transmits it to the BSC. Based on the difference transmitted from the mobile terminal, the BSC calculates the distance between the mobile terminal and the BS. Then the BSC combines the calculated distance and the direction angle and confirms the location of the mobile terminal.
