A position detecting method is provided to detect the position of a mobile station by changing the ranging manner used at the existing system, thereby enhancing the efficiency. When the position measurement of a mobile station is needed, the first base station requests the dedicated ranging region for the corresponding mobile station to the adjacent second base station(S10). Thereafter, the second base station allocates and transmits the parameter for the dedicated ranging to the first base station(S12). The first base station allocates the parameter for the dedicated ranging between the corresponding mobile station and the first base station(S14). Thereafter, the first base station inserts the allocated parameter as the TLV(Type/Length/Value) shape into the ranging response message and transmits the ranging response message to the corresponding mobile station(S16). The first base station activates and transmits the dedicated ranging indicator to the defined UL(Up-Link)-MAP to the mobile station(S18). Thereafter, the mobile station transmits the CDMA code included into the ranging response message to the first base station(S20). The first base station measures the timing control value relating to the arrival time of the CDMA code by means of the received CDMA code(S22).
