PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine system and an exhaust gas treatment device regenerating method in this system, capable of improving regeneration efficiency of an exhaust gas treatment device, while minimizing the influence on the fuel consumption of an automobile having the exhaust gas treatment device, or minimizing complication of the engine system. SOLUTION: A method according to the invention relates to the exhaust gas treatment device 8 of the engine system having an internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder 2. The engine system also has a fuel injection means 11 and the exhaust gas treatment device 8. The method includes a process of restraining combustion in at least one of the cylinder 2, and a process of controlling the fuel injection means 11 so as to supply fuel to at least one of the combustion-restrained cylinder 2 (208, 209, 223, 224 and 225).
