1,162,993. Axial piston pumps and motors. UNIPAT A.G. May 10, 1967 [Aug. 19, 1966], No. 37169/66. Heading F1A. In an axial piston pump or motor having a rotary cylinder block 17, 18, 21 and pairs of opposed pistons 28, 29, the piston pairs are constructed to telescope one within the other at their innermost positions within the cylinders 27. At their outermost positions the ratio of the length of the pistons within the cylinders and the length projecting therefrom is not more than 1:1. The cam plate 14 is of fixed inclination and the cam plate 15 is angularly adjustable by a control member 58, Fig. 3, (not shown), acting through a pivoted lever (55) carrying a pin (59) with a head (60) engaging a groove (61) in the cam plate surface. The cam plate 15 bears on a backing member 49 provided with strips 53 of bearing metal impregnated with P.T.F.E. The cylinder sleeves 27 are biased by the pressure therein to maintain the enlarged end portions 68 abutting the cylinder block. This bias on the cylinder block is balanced by bias produced at the face 67 of the cylinder block which co-operates with the face valve 76. The face valve 76 is carried by four tubes mounted in recesses in the end plate. A pintle valve may be provided.
