PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive tension device having no fear of increasing the size of stitches of a knit to be irregular caused by the reduction of tension at folded parts or not engaging the knitting yarn with knitting needles, and also facilitating maintenance, inspite of a simple and compact structure. SOLUTION: This tension device is constituted by installing side tension mechanisms at both side parts in the longitudinal direction of a needle bed and pressurized air-ejection tubes for adjusting the tension of the knitting yarn at a yarn feeder, opening air-feeding ports for ejecting the tension-adjusting air from an air-supplying source at a position adjacent to an air inlet of the pressurized air ejection tube of a joining member for joining carriages arranged at front and rear, and making the tension-adjusting air flow in a direction opposite to the feeding direction of the knitting yarn in the pressurized air-ejection tube of the yarn feeder taken by taking means in an approaching direction to the side tension mechanisms by inverting the reciprocal sliding of the carriages.
