PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive achieving reliable alternative processing by writing the defect management information only in the area high in recording quality having a predetermined level or higher. SOLUTION: The optical disk drive has a recording section 11 to record information on an optical disk by being irradiated with a laser beam, a measuring means 20 to measure the recording quality of the recording area of the optical disk, and controllers 11, 14 to control the recording section to record the defective management information in the area whose recording quality measured by the measuring means is at a predetermined level or higher among the recording areas of the optical disk.
