PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably move an ink carrier both in forward and backward directions in an ink-jet printer in which the ink carrier is connected to an endless belt and reciprocated. SOLUTION: An ASIC determines whether the ink carrier is moved in a forward direction or a backward direction (S1). When it is to be moved in the forward direction (YES in S1), a proportional constant Kpf and an integration constant Kif for the forward movement stored in a ROM is read, and feedback control is performed by using them (S2). When it is to be moved in the backward direction (NO in S1), a proportional constant Kpr and an integration constant Kir for backward movement stored in the ROM are read, and feedback control is performed by using them (S3). The proportional constant Kpr for the backward movement is smaller than the proportional constant Kpf for the forward movement. The integration constant Kir for the backward movement is larger than the integration constant Kif for the forward movement. Therefore, variation in the backward direction movement in which variation of the ink carrier is comparatively large can be suppressed, and variation in the forward direction movement in which variation is comparatively small can be also suppressed.
