A system for monitoring the back of the vehicle based on wireless communication is provided to receive an image for the rear of the vehicle, a sound signal, and distance data through wireless communication, so that maintenance of the vehicle is easily achieved. A system for monitoring the back of the vehicle includes a rear portion detecting device(300) and an image display device. The rear portion detecting device includes a back-up lamp detector(350), an ultrasonic wave transmitter(330), an ultrasonic wave receiver(340), an image photographing part(310), a sound signal obtaining part(320), a multimedia signal transmitter(360), a first data transceiver(380), and a first controller(370). The first controller generates an ultrasonic generation control signal with a predetermined period of time if a back-up lamp detecting signal is input. The first controller creates information on a distance between an object positioned at the rear portion of a vehicle and the vehicle by using a difference between time to receive the ultrasonic wave and time to output the ultrasonic wave generation control signal.
