PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic adjusting device for speed governor rope tension in which a tension pulley is prevented from coming into contact with the bottom surface of a hoistway or a device even if a speed governor rope is largely extended. SOLUTION: This automatic adjusting device for speed governor rope tension comprises a tension pulley 7 around which a speed governor rope 6 is wrapped, a rail 8 vertically extending to the bottom surface side of a hoistway 2, a movable support arm 9 slidably installed on the rail 8 and rotatably supporting the tension pulley 7, a second support arm 13 fixed to the rail 8 under the tension pulley 7 and rotatably supporting a second return pulley 12, a first support arm 11 fixed to the rail 8 under the second return pulley 12 and rotatably supporting a first return pulley 10, a third support arm 14 fixed to the rail 8 above the tension pulley 7, and a spring 15 installed between the third support arm 14 and the movable support arm 9 and biasing the movable support arm 9 upward.
