PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compression self-ignition type gasoline engine having torque which will to be lowered in the full load operation by spark ignition in comparison with a conventional spark-ignition type gasoline engine. SOLUTION: An ECU 1 calculates load and revolution speed on the basis of an accelerator angle signal and a crank angle sensor signal and decides whether the operating range is a spark ignition range or a self-ignition combustion range, on the basis of the calculated values. According to the decision, a spark ignition combustion control unit 3 or a self-ignition combustion control unit 4 are operated. A valve-timing control unit 5 sets the normal valve timing suitable for spark ignition and the valve timing having the closed period suitable for self ignition. A fuel ignition timing control unit 6 changes the fuel ignition timing in the closed period according tot the engine rotational speed and/or load in the self-ignition combustion and secures suitable fuel reforming time. |
