PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for manufacturing a thermoplastic resin-coated FRP filament while the outside diameter of the filament used, for example, as a tension member for a drop optical cable is adjusted accurately over a long length. SOLUTION: In the method and apparatus for manufacturing the thermoplastic resin-coated FRP filament, the periphery of a thermoplastic resin-coated layer is heated/softened by passing it through a preheated die having a stitch whose diameter is larger than the outside diameter of a thermoplastic resin-coated FRP filament element wire and a cutting blade with a taper angle of 90-150°and first and second diameter adjustment dies which are kept at a temperature lower than that of the preheated die and have stitches whose diameters are smaller than the outside diameter of the element wire to adjust the outside diameter of the thermoplastic resin-coated layer.
