<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element which suppresses the degradation of the light-emitting characteristics of a vertical cavity surface emitting semiconductor laser, and a method of manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: An optical element 100 of the present invention includes: a vertical cavity surface emitting semiconductor laser 140; and a light detecting element 120 for detecting a part of laser light emitted from the vertical cavity surface emitting semiconductor laser. The light detecting element has a light absorbing layer and a first contact layer 111, and the first contact layer is made of a semiconductor whose absorption edge wavelength is smaller than the oscillation wavelength of the vertical cavity surface emitting semiconductor laser. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
