PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an increases in the amount of data for displaying addresses. SOLUTION: A conventional car navigation system has displayed addresses in a vicinity of the current position of a vehicle through the use of polygon data for displaying addresses. On the other hand, a car navigation system 1 in this form of implementation is constituted in such a way as to display addresses in the vicinity of the current position of a vehicle on a display monitor 14 on the basis of the position of the computed current position of the vehicle on a link. It is thereby possible to reduce the volume of data for displaying addresses and speed up the processing of address display. Polygon data has excessively increased the volume of data to lower the processing speed for address display especially if addresses in the vicinity of the current position of a vehicle are to be displayed to block numbers. Since the car navigation system 1 in this form of implementation can speedily display addresses, it does not make users feel a sense of incongruity due to reductions in processing speed.
