PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a conveying means which stably recovers toner, by preventing packing of recovered toner merged at the junction part of conveyance pipes. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus includes an image forming means for forming a toner image; a transfer means for transferring the toner image onto an image carrier; a cleaning means for cleaning up residual toner on the image carrier after the transfer; and a toner conveying means 287, comprising a plurality of conveyance pipes 143 and 286 for conveying the residual toner removed by the cleaning means from the cleaning means, the toner conveying means includes detection means S1 and S2 for detecting toner pool stagnating at the junction part of conveyance pipes.
