PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screw shaft for a ball screw mechanism and a manufacturing method for screw shafts capable of suppressing the incomplete thread part at low costs. SOLUTION: Even in a case of forming a large diameter flange part 1b adjacently to a male thread groove 1a on the screw shaft 1 of this ball screw mechanism, a small diameter portion 1c with a smaller diameter than the bottom diameter of the male thread groove is formed between the two parts 1a and 1b, and thereby interference with the flange part 1b is avoided even without forming a taper at the end part peripheral surface of a rolling die. The screw shaft can be made by the in-feed rolling process at low costs , i.e. without employing the machining process or the like. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
