<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline dry battery suppressing drop in low rate discharge characteristics, enhancing high rate discharge characteristics, and suppressing increase in manufacturing cost. <P>SOLUTION: An active material for the alkaline dry battery contains a manganese nickel composite oxide represented by formula (1): Mn<SB>1-x</SB>Ni<SB>x</SB>O<SB>2-y</SB>(in the formula, 0.01≤x≤0.5; 0≤y≤0.5), and the alkaline dry battery contains the manganese nickel composite oxide in a positive electrode. The manganese nickel composite oxide shows discharge potential higher than that of conventional manganese dioxide. The alkaline dry battery using the manganese nickel composite oxide as a positive active material can enhance high rate discharge characteristics due to high discharge voltage. Since addition of material not contributing to discharge reaction is made unnecessary, drop in low rate discharge characteristics can be suppressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
