1,176,887. Extrusion die. KALLE A.G. 28 Dec., 1967 [29 Dec., 1966], No. 58827/67. Heading B5B. [Also in Division B2] Films may be made by extruding film forming materials through a slotted die in which the slot 15 is formed between two separate cheeks 12, 13 which when assembled meet over plane parallel surfaces extending in the longitudinal direction of the slot, has said cheeks in the assembled condition confined between two corresponding surfaces of an external member or members 19 under a fluid pressure exerted in one or more chambers 20 in a confining surface of such external member(s) which chambers are sealed to maintain said fluid pressure by resilient means arranged to make confining contact under said pressure with the adjacent cheek surface. The resilient means may be a sheet adhered across the chamber(s) or one or more hoses 21 in and tending to project from the chambers. The external member may be a U-shaped bar. Further chambers and resilient means may be provided for varying the slot width. One of the cheeks may have a recess constituting a reservoir for the film forming material. The fluid pressure medium may be used for heat transfer.
