1,4-bis(hydroxyethyl)piperazine diesters - with myolytic-type spasmolytic activity

Title diesters of formula (I) (where B is -OC(O)CH (alpha-naphthyl)R; R is H or straight-chain 1-5C alkyl) and their mono- and di-acid addn. salts are prepd. by reacting N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazine with a 1-naphthylalkanoic acid B-H. The reaction is pref. carried out by passing an inert gas through a molten mixt. of the reactants to remove water of reaction or by reacting in a high-boiling solvent which forms an azeotrope with water and removing water of reaction by azeotropic distillation.
