A ring-shaped redundant communication path control method uses transfer devices, each of which periodically transmits an inspection frame for inspecting a communication path, detects a failure of the communication path when no inspection frame is received for a predetermined time, transmits a non-arrival report frame indicating that no inspection frame has arrived, and detects a failure of the communication path when a non-arrival report frame is received. Moreover, upon detection of a failure, each of the transfer devices transmits an open command frame instructing to close the port which has failed and open a main close port from a port other than the port which has failed. Upon reception of the open command frame, the open command frame is transferred and the main close port is opened if the port other than the port which has failed and is closed or the port which has received the open command frame or other port constituting the same ring-shaped redundant communication path as the port is the main close port. ® KIPO & WIPO 2009
