PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bucket-type elevating/lowering machine flexibly ready for the change in the length of an endless conveying member, having no dead space for unnecessary deposition of stuff to be conveyed, and free from any breakage, accident or the like of a bucket. SOLUTION: The bucket-type elevating/lowering machine for hoisting and conveying stuff to be conveyed comprises a pair of upper and lower rollers and a plurality of buckets mounted on an endless conveying member wound between the rollers; and further comprises an upper casing for rotatably and pivotally supporting the upper roller, a lower casing for rotatably and pivotally supporting the lower roller, and a moving device for relatively moving the upper casing and the lower casing in the vertical direction. A lower portion of the upper casing partly overlaps an upper portion of the lower casing. On the elevating side of the endless conveying member, the upper portion of the lower casing is located inside the lower portion of the upper casing.
