IMAGE QUALITY ESTIMATING METHOD AND DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain sufficient estimation accuracy even when degradation is superposed on an image in the case of the occurrence of a plurality of invalid packets.

SOLUTION: An invalid frame number computing section 23 totals the number of invalid frames that could not be normally decoded by a receiving device due to the influence of invalid packets out of frames based on invalid packet information and frame configuration. An image quality estimating section 24 reads an image quality estimation model from an image quality estimation mode database 26 and computes an image quality estimate corresponding to the number of invalid frames computed by the invalid frame number computing section 23. When the invalid packets occur respectively in different frames in the same frame group and the influences of these invalid packets are superposed in the optional frame in the invalid frame number computing section 23, the corresponding number of invalid frames are weighted with a predetermined weighting factor and totaled for every invalid packet.
