摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of accurately extracting a shadow area included within a monitoring area. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus has edge image extracting means 11 for extracting edge pixels from an image obtained by photographing the monitoring area, binarization threshold value calculating means 12 for making an intermediate value between the maximum intensity value and the minimum intensity value of adjacent pixels on an image corresponding to the edge pixels to be a binarizing threshold value, and shadow area extracting means 13 for extracting the shadow area in the image by binarizing the image using the binarizing threshold value. The binarization threshold value calculating means 12 extracts the maximum intensity value and the minimum intensity value in the adjacent pixels in every edge pixel, makes an average value of the maximum intensity value of all the edge pixels to be the maximum intensity representative value, calculates an average value of the minimum intensity value of all the edge pixels to be the minimum intensity representative value, and makes an intermediate value between the maximum intensity representative value and the minimum intensity representative value to be the binarizing threshold value.
