PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of easily manufacturing a self-forming optical waveguide with higher optical coupling efficiency at a low cost by improving the tolerance of positional deviation of optical wiring which requires strict positioning of an optical device such as a PD, and to provide an optical device provided with such the self-forming optical waveguide. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the self-forming optical waveguide 3, by which the optical waveguide being an optical coupling means is formed by hardening a part where light 5 is made to pass by irradiating a photocurable resin 40 with the light 5, is characterized in that the self-forming optical waveguide 3 being the optical coupling means and having a substantially tapered form is formed by irradiating the photocurable resin 40 with the light 5 deflected with a lens 35, and the optical device has such the self-forming optical waveguide 3.
