PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camshaft for a valve gear capable of improving the lubricity of a cam nose of a cam. SOLUTION: The camshaft 2 is used for the valve gear 1 of an engine, and provided with the cam 3 arranged to oppose a valve lifter 5 arranged at the stem tip 421 of a valve 4. A base circle part 31 and the cam nose 32 are formed on the outer circumference surface of the cam 3. The cam nose 32 has a start side hollow part 35A depressed and formed at a section excluding a slide start part, a nose top and both ends in the axial direction of the cam 3 in a slide start zone to the nose top from the slide start part from which the valve lifter 5 starts sliding on a slide surface 511.
