The internal filter (2) of the container (1) divides it into two volumes (3, 4). One is the dirty side (4) for unclean gas, the other side (3) is the clean side, for purified gas. The intake opening (5) for fresh gas, connects with the dirty side. The outlet opening (6) leads away from the clean side, to the engine. An opening (7) in the container has a continuously-adjustable closure. This opens out radially from its center point, the degree of opening being adjusted by an actuator (9). The closure is capable of adopting a closed position with a minimal degree of opening, and an open position permitting maximum through-flow.
