PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the optimum conveyance control by deciding a proper quantity of electrostatic charge in response to kind of paper sheets, a resistance value and quantity of charge of the paper sheet. SOLUTION: When conveyance of recording paper sheets is started, characteristic of the recording paper sheets is detected (obtained) (step 303). Characteristic of the recording paper sheet to be detected here is a resistance value and quantity of charge of the recording paper sheet. A control section 200 obtains proper control information to be required to control charge from data obtained from a setting information obtaining step 301 and a recording paper sheet characteristic detecting step 303 (step 304). Based on these control information, a proper voltage and a proper pitch are given to a conveying belt (step 305) so as to attract the recording paper sheet to a charged belt for printing operation (step 306). In the case when quantity of conveyance reaches a predetermined quantity (Yes in a step 307), the information to be required for charge is set again.
