PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce influence on the inside of a rotor in a cryogenic state even if the temperature of a magnetic shield rises, and to reduce the thicknesses of the magnetic shield and a vacuum container wall. SOLUTION: A rotor of a superconducting rotary electric machine includes a superconducting field winding 9 provided on the outside circumferential portion of a cylindrical winding-installed shaft 7. The cylindrical vacuum container wall 1 is arranged so as to surround the field winding 9 and the cylindrical magnetic shield 2 is arranged outside in the radial direction of the vacuum container wall 1. The magnetic shield 2 is arranged with a gap from the vacuum container wall 1, so that heat conduction to the side of the vacuum container wall 1 is reduced. Furthermore, it is configured to allow thermal elongation at least in the axial direction by fixing one end of the axial direction of the magnetic shield to a rotating shaft 3b and arranging the other end in a non-contraint state at least to the axial direction.
