PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sapphire single crystal which develops a posh color from yellow green to sky blue. SOLUTION: The sapphire single crystal comprises Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>as a main component and further comprises 0.5-5.0 mass% of Fe, 0.04-3.0 mass% of Ti, and 0.5-5.0 mass% of Ni, in terms of respective oxides, respectively, wherein a part of the Fe, Ti, and Ni is ionized and forms a solid solution.
