A fixed constant velocity universal joint has an outer ring (10) having axially extending ball grooves (16) circumferentially equidistantly formed in a spherical inner peripheral surface (14) of the outer ring, an inner ring (20) having axially extending ball grooves (26) circumferentially equidistantly formed in a spherical outer surface (24) of the inner ring, balls (30) each placed between a ball groove (16) in the outer ring and a corresponding ball groove (26) in the inner ring, and a cage (40) having pockets (46) for receiving the balls (40) and arranged at predetermined intervals in the circumferential direction. The outer ring (10) is formed by hot forging or turning and is subjected to thermal refining.
