PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent wasteful replacement of a usable LED. SOLUTION: The image illuminating device includes: a light source section for irradiating a document with light; and a transmission line for transmitting power to the section. The light source section is composed such that a plurality of independent light irradiation objects 402, each of which has at least one light emitting device 401, are attachable to or detachable from a common power supply substrate 405. Thus, even if there is any light emitting device that does not give light due to the reach of its life, malfunction, or the like, only the light irradiation object in which the light emitting device is disposed can be replaced.
